About the Artist
Sarah Chapman anchors her practice in the research of emotion, which she explores through oil paintings of unicorns filtered and warped through personal memory and imagination. Her investigations into specific pigments and materiality reflect her conversation with the current condition. Her current Emoticorns and Megacorns series explore the relationship between the paint and what lies beneath, both supporting and distorting, inviting reflection into the viewer’s particular internal experience of the anthropocene.
In 2025, she was an artist-in-residence at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, where her project explored the relationship between our emotional experience and contemporary monsters, both within ourselves and in the world. Additionally, she is the Art Theory & Criticism Monitor at the Art Students League and a Visiting Teaching Artist at the Main Line Art Center.
Sarah is based out of NYC and maintains her studio in Long Island City. She received a B.A. and J.D. from NYU, and was a lawyer and derivatives trader before becoming an artist. Sarah trained in drawing, painting, and printmaking at the Art Students League. Her artwork is frequently exhibited and is displayed in private and corporate collections nationwide and internationally. When she is not painting, she enjoys training and caring for shelter dogs and puppies.
