About the Artist
Sarah Chapman anchors her practice in representational painting modified through the lenses of memory and imagination. She finds inspiration in objects of curiosity and the imagined internal lives of non-human beings. Her research is centered on emotion, and her work raises questions about the internal experience of identity juxtaposed with external social structures, systems, and current events.
In 2025, she was an artist-in-residence at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, where her project explored the relationship between our emotional experience and contemporary monsters, both within ourselves and in the world. Additionally, she is a Visiting Teaching Artist at the Main Line Art Center and a Monitor at the Art Students League.
Sarah is based out of NYC. She received a B.A. and J.D. from NYU, and was a lawyer and derivatives trader before becoming an artist. Sarah pursued her art education at the Art Students League, where she trained in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Her artwork is frequently exhibited and is displayed in private and corporate collections nationwide.
